When it comes to the Silverado 1500, Chevrolet never stops innovating. The brand’s iconic pickup truck is about to gain a major update to its Super Cruise technology. Scheduled for early 2022, this enhancement will add even more tools to the Silverado’s hands-free driver-assist system.
After you install the update, your Silverado 1500 will boast hands-free lane-changing capabilities. It does more than just make lane changes a breeze — if the system notices a slow vehicle ahead of you, it can change lanes to pass it, then return you to the lane you want to be in. On top of that, Super Cruise is now compatible with trailers, so you can enjoy its conveniences even when towing your boat to the lake or bringing a camper along for a road trip. GM even upgraded the navigation system with Super Cruise integration — you’ll now be able to view 200,000 miles of compatible roadways in the U.S. and Canada, as well as pick hands-free-compatible routes to your chosen destination.
Mario Maiorana, Super Cruise chief engineer, announced that the automaker is excited to expand the availability of hands-free driving technology. He further explained that the automaker would like to further enhance the semi-automated driving technology, with the eventual goal of enabling drivers to go hands-free up to 95 percent of the time.
