The Cadillac V-Series has long been the epitome of both luxury and performance. Cadillac recently upgraded its V-Series lineup with the powerful Blackwing engine. Now, the 2022 V-Series models will offer new available magnesium alloy wheels.
These wheels will be available on both the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The wheels will not only have an attractive, modern design, but they will be functional, too. Magnesium helps absorb vibrations and reduce mass. Magnesium wheels are common on many professional racing vehicles, such as Formula 1 and World Endurance Championship. Cadillac was also considering carbon fiber wheels, but decided to go with magnesium.
In correspondence with Car and Driver, Cadillac verified the use of magnesium and said, “magnesium wheels help reduce mass at the center, allowing for more flexibility with the spoke design and better shock/vibration absorbance. In our testing, magnesium alloy wheels produced a better ride quality due to its vibration dampening.”
Magnesium wheels were previously offered on another General Motors product, the fifth-generation Chevrolet Corvette. However, the option was dropped in 2001. To show off the magnesium in its new wheels, Cadillac has stamped a stylized “Mg” onto the wheels — the symbol for magnesium on the period table.
